Oboe Faculty

Faculty Ariana Varvaro poses and smiles with her oboe in front of bush

Having been raised in a music loving household, Ariana grew up listening to a wide  range of music, from Led Zeppelin’s classic 70’s albums to Debussy’s Nocturnes. Craving a way  to create music for herself, at the age of 11 she decided to give the oboe a shot. From there,  her passion led her being accepted into Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, further  solidifying her passion.

In 2021, Ariana received her Bachelor’s in Oboe Performance at the University of  Miami’s Frost School of Music. In 2022 she spent a short time at McGill University studying with  Theodore Baskin. Additionally, she has studied privately with professionals such as Robert  Weiner, Randall Ellis, and Gerard Schwarz. She has attended summer long classical music  intensive festivals such as Eastern Summer Music Festival (2021) and Sewanee Summer Music  Festival (2019).

Searching for a change of pace, Ariana moved to Asheville in 2022 in hopes to explore  the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina. Since then, she has played with the  Asheville Symphony, Hendersonville Symphony, and has upcoming gigs with Clemson  University.

As an educator, she strives to make lessons fun, engaging, and adaptive to the learning  styles and needs of each student. Ariana’s lessons will include aspects of study from both the  classical and improv idioms to make sure every student is well versed in a variety of styles of  music and has the tools to completely shape their own musical journey!
