Juan Vizcarra
Piano Faculty

Peruvian pianist Juan Vizcarra has performed as a recitalist, soloist and collaborative
pianist in the United States, Peru, Canada and Mexico. He is a frequent guest soloist with the
Peru National Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra of The University of Lima and
other major Peruvian orchestras. Significant performances include appearances as guest soloist
for the Anniversary Concert of Filarmonía, the main classical music radio station of Peru, at the
2015 American Liszt Society Festival “Liszt and Damnation”, held at the University of North
Texas, Denton, and as Soloist with Peru National Symphony Orchestra for the Gala Opening
Concert of the Asociación Cultural Teresa Quesada.

As a recording artist, Juan has recorded two volumes of August Stradal & #39;s virtuoso piano
transcriptions of Wagner operas for Toccata Classics. On these recordings MusicWeb
International said that “Vizcarra is thrillingly virtuosic whenever required but it is in the
reflective and lyrical passages that his interpretative skill shines through”, and Fanfare
commented: “Bizarrely given the technical difficulty of much of this music, perhaps the most
impressive part of Vizcarra’s reading is the power of the single line”.

Juan Vizcarra started the piano at the age of seven under the tutelage of his father, Tomás
Vizcarra, and has since studied in the United States with John Owings, José Feghali and Joseph
Banowetz. Juan holds a Bachelors of Music Degree from Universidad Nacional de San Agustín,
Arequipa - Peru, an Artist Diploma and a Master of Music degree from Texas Christian
University, and an Artist Certificate and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from University of
North Texas.
