Tim McWilliams

Tim McWilliams is an accomplished musician embodying the diverse roots music traditions of Western North Carolina. Upon receiving his M.A. in Appalachian Music: Roots & Influences from Appalachian State University in 2014, Tim launched his professional music career with a three-month cross-country tour. Since then, he has performed full-time as the leader of his group, The Tim McWilliams Band, as well as a solo artist. While continuing to grow and evolve as a musician, Tim already has notable achievements which include: receiving an endorsement by Larrivee Guitars, performing more than 1,000 shows on stages throughout the greater Southeast, and performing at many iconic regional festivals, such as MerleFest, LEAF, Fall for Greenville, and the Downtown Asheville Independence Day Celebration. In 2019, Tim started a new project with acclaimed old-time musician, William Ritter.

Tim not only has years of experience as a private music instructor, but also has experience teaching as an AmeriCorps member with the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, and as an Instructor of Record at Appalachian State University. Tim pairs his deep knowledge of diverse musical styles and techniques with his love for teaching, enabling students to quickly increase their skills and gain a deep appreciation for the music they are learning.
